Floud is a recently-formed (September 2017) innovative start-up, born as a spin-off of Magenta srl software lab. The mission is to develop and trade IT products based on cutting-edge technologies such as automatic video-analysis, Industrial Internet-of-Things (IIoT), artificial intelligence, machine vision and pattern recognition.
In the last 10 years, also thanks to many European co-funding programs, Floud’s co-founders have gained a relevant experience in these technologies, developing their interest for machine vision, smart sensors and embedded platforms. It’s a quite long story that starts back in 2011 with the ORUSSI project, and then go through the CHEST/TrafficFlow and SOUL-FI/FLOUD projects (not to mentions a SME Instruments and the recent H2020 OrganiCity project). You can read more about these projects here.
The TrafficFlow and FLOUD projects were particularly successful. FLOUD, for instance, which made use of the FIWARE technology, is mentioned as a success story on the FIWARE website (https://www.fiware.org/success_stories/floud-by-magenta-srl). And TrafficFlow was a great test bed for the sensing technology, allowing Floud’s co-founder to spread across Italian borders with SME Instruments and the recent Organicity initiative. These successes encouraged the founders to run a stand-alone company, that was implemented also thanks to the EU/H2020 program for SMEs.
As a result of these projects’ activities, Floud srl owns the intellectual property of a system for automatic real-time video-analysis of video-streams capturing traffic flows, or other moving objects (boxes, luggages, …), that make the system suitable for a variety of different domains, including (but not limited to):
- traffic monitoring
- logistics
- statistics
- events detection
- parking lots
- gates control
- …
Though Floud has a special focus on traffic monitoring and other technologies for the Smart City, it also works on a wide range of customized solutions for industry, commerce, and private users.
